A Minister, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri; a former governorship candidate, David Lyon; and others have been suspended by the All Progressives Congress in Bayelsa State.
The suspension of the APC chieftains on Friday was carried out by the party in two local government areas in Bayelsa State.
While Lokpobiri, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), was suspended by the party in Ekeremor Local Government Area, Lyon, who was the governorship candidate of the party in the 2019 off-cycle election in the state, was sent packing by his people in Souther Ijaw LGA.
Those suspended apart from Lokpobiri and Lyon included the state Commissioner for Power, Kharim Kumoko; Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Peres Biewari; former state Chairman, Jothan Amos; an ex-officio member of the APC National Executive Council, Godbless Diriwari; and the Southern Ijaw APC Youth Leader, Sabi Morgan.

APC Ward 3 Chairman, Omiebi Fuoebi; Ward 4 Chairman, Claudius Odobu; and their Ward Executive Council members were also suspended.
The Chairman of the party in Ekeremor LGA, Mitin Eniekenemi Senator, pronounced Lokpobiri and Kumoko suspended indefinitely in Yenagoa, the state capital, following a report by the party’s disciplinary committee.
He accused Lokpobiri of engaging in anti-party activities since the 2019 governorship election, which included supporting a faction within the party and backing Governor Douye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 Bayelsa State gubernatorial election.
Similarly, APC Chairman of Southern Ijaw LGA, Ebikazi Gbefa, announced the suspension of Lyon and seven others.
Gbefa accused them of undermining the party’s candidates during recent elections and supporting the PDP.
The suspensions have been referred to the APC State Executive Council for ratification, with no questions taken from journalists at the briefing where they were informed of the development.
