State governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress on Thursday night in Lagos urged the National Assembly to see the ongoing realignment as normal.
Reading the communique after holding a meeting, Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State said the governors wanted the two houses in the assembly to protect the rights and privileges of members to choose parties of their choice.
Okorocha, who is the Chairman, APC Governors Forum, said the forum also wanted the Independent National Electoral Commission to make adequate preparations for the forthcoming polls in Ekiti and Osun States.
According to Okorocha, the governors want INEC to ensure that the elections are free and fair.
He said that the forum was also concerned about recent developments in Rivers State in relation to the reported cases of police brutality.
Okorocha said that the forum was unhappy with the conduct of the police in the state.
The governor, in his own comments on the resignation of the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, told journalists that it would not affect the gains of the APC.
He said that none of those who defected to the APC would go back to the PDP, even with Tukur’s exit.
He said: “The reason why they left was not because of Tukur.
“They left because PDP has not fulfilled the aspirations of the people.”
Governors Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State, Tanko Al Makura of Nasarawa State and Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State were among those at the meeting.
Governors Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers) and Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo ) were also present.
