A Nigerian footballer, Dickson Nwakaeme, who plays for Pahang FA in the Malaysia Super League, has stated that former Super Eagles gaffer, Samson Siasia, asked him for money for him to feature in the Beijing 2008 Olympics football tournament.
Nwakaeme levelled the allegation on Sunday on his Instagram handle: dicksonnakaeme, while replying to a statement made by On-Air Personality, Murphy Ijemba, who was lamenting the case of David Alaba, who was told to pay bribe before he could play for the Nigerian national team, but later opted to play for Austria since he could not afford to pay.
The Eagle Online reports that the issue of Nigerian or even African coaches collecting money to feature players in tournaments have always been a major issue militating against the development of football in the continent.
Former Super Eagles Coach, Salisu Yusuf, was seen on video receiving cash from a journalist who posed as a football agent requesting that two players are selected for a major championship.
Also, there was a report that current France sensation, Kylian Mbappe, was supposed to play for Cameroon, but the dream ended up in a stalemate.
According to Mbappe’s father, did dream did not materialise because he did not have that amount of money so he took his son to the French team and he was accepted without any financial demand.
