Fury, Joshua to seal deal in two weeks

Anthony Joshua takes on Kubrat Pulev on December 12 in his first outing since defeating Andy Ruiz Jr in their rematch almost exactly one year ago.

The 31-year-old is an Olympic gold medallist and 23-1 in his professional career, which has seen him claim all but one of the heavyweight world titles on offer.

His only slip-up came against Ruiz Jr back in June 2019 in his sole fight in America – when he was stunningly stopped in the seventh round.

Ruiz took the fight on six weeks notice and the visual of the ripped adonis Joshua standing next to the out of shape Ruiz had many believing that the result was a forgone conclusion.

Ruiz Jr shocked the world that night in Madison Square Garden and his trainer at the time Manny Robles helped to mastermind it.

As Joshua approaches his showdown with Pulev, Robles has explained exactly how the Brit can be beaten.

Speaking to Marc Gatford of MyBettingSites.co.uk blog, the veteran boxing trainer said: “The right hand. If you time the right hand properly and jab to the chest, jab to the body and come over with the right hand, that’s where I feel Joshua is vulnerable.

“You saw that in the Povetkin fight, who landed the right hand. Most fighters that have been able to hurt Joshua – it’s been the right hand.

“If you don’t work on keeping that left hand up, or getting away from the right hand, the same thing is going to continue to happen. Got to work on that defence.

“Joshua is a great fighter, a great person but he’s vulnerable too, he’s human. He’s not perfect, he makes mistakes. And we capitalized on those mistakes in June 2019.

“Pulev is not a walk in a park, he’s an experienced fighter. He is definitely the type of fighter that gives Joshua a run for his money. Pulev doesn’t have the quickness Andy has, but if they study him, break him down, and come up with a good game plan he could be effective.”

Judging by Joshua’s condition and motivation, it’s going to be a tall order to say the least.
