The President, Bauchi State chapter of the All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools, Dr. Musa Jahun, has called for the restoration of the position of “Director without portfolio” to teachers on Grade level 16 in the state.
Making the call on Saturday in Bauchi on behalf of his colleagues at a ceremony organized to present award to some people, Jahun said the measure would encourage job retention and enhance productivity.
He also appealed to the state government to promote teachers to the position of “Tutor-General” or “Ministry Secretary” on Grade Level 17, as obtained in Borno, Kaduna, Benue, Kogi and Nassarawa States.
Other requests included the restoration of inducement, rural and hazard allowances earlier suspended by the government.
According to Jahun, restoring the allowances will motivate teachers in the state to put in their best.
He said 40 individuals and organisations were selected by ANCOPSS for “Awards of Excellence” for their contributions to the development of education in the state.
In his remarks, Governor Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi State, represented by Commissioner for Education, Prof. Haruna Danwanka, said his administration was contemplating increasing the amount allocated to the education sector in the state budget.
Abubakar said this had become necessary considering the influx of Internally Displaced Persons into the state.
