The Association of National Accountants of Nigeria on Tuesday commended the Federal Government’s continuous anti-corruption drive and whistle blowing campaign.
Prof. Muhammad Mainoma, ANAN President and Chairman of Council, gave the commendation during the opening ceremony of the 5th session of 2020 Mandatory Continuing Professional Development programme held in Abeokuta.
Mainoma stated that the association was committed to assisting the Federal Government in ensuring discipline and prudence in the management of the nation’s resources.
He added that the government’s anti-corruption agenda had greatly boosted the nation’s value and integrity through the recovery of looted funds.
The ANAN president urged the Federal Government to ensure the redistribution of looted funds to revamp the economy and improve the living standards of Nigerians.
In providing machinery for training, supervision and regulation of the practice of forensic accounting and fraud prevention, he said that ANAN had established the Society for Forensic Accounting and Fraud Prevention.
He urged members to register with SFAFP to boost their professional competence and to foster a corrupt-free society.
Mainoma added that ANAN also maintained synergy with the government by ensuring erring members were punished to serve as deterrent to others.
Declaring the event open, the Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, applauded members of the association for their roles in the nation’s development, noting that accounting was at the heart of all professions.
Abiodun, represented by his Chief of Staff, Shuaib Salisu, however, urged ANAN members to reinvent themselves and be creative in order to meet up with the demands of the 21st century.
