The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man for allegedly killing his aged father and burying him in a shallow grave.
The spokesman of the Command, Haruna Mohammed, announced this in a statement on Saturday.
It was learnt that Police operatives attached to Umunze Division in collaboration with local vigilante group arrested one Chisom Ogum of Umuomaku Community in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State on Saturday at about 6am.
The suspect, who allegedly ran amok in a circumstance yet to be ascertained by the police, attacked and killed his own biological father, Christopher Ogum, 70, of same address with a shovel and buried him in a shallow grave.
Mohammed said the suspect attempted to escape before he was apprehended and beaten to stupor by an angry mob, which equally forced him to exhume the corpse of his father from where he buried it.
He added that the Police detectives visited the scene of crime, photographed the victim and took the corpse to the mortuary for autopsy, after it was certified dead by a Medical Doctor at Umunze General Hospital.
He also said the offensive weapon used in perpetrating the offence was also recovered as exhibit.
According to Mohammed, the Commissioner of Police, John B. Abang, has ordered for the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka for discreet investigation.
