The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party on Thursday in Abuja suspended Senator Andy Uba, Chief Chris Uba and the Anambra State factional Chairman of the party, Chief Ejike Oguebego.
Also suspended were Chief Benji Udeozor and Tonia Nwankwu.
The suspension was contained in letters sent to the affected politicians.
All the letters were signed by the PDP’s Acting National Secretary, Dr. Aderemi Akitoye.
The suspended party chieftains were accused by the PDP leadership of conducting a parallel state congress on August 24 for the nomination of a governorship candidate for the forthcoming Anambra State governorship election slated for November 16.
“In view of the seriousness of the issues involved, you are hereby suspended from the party and the case referred to the appropriate disciplinary committee for further necessary action,” the letter stated.
Uba and the other party chieftains had earlier declined to appear before the PDP NWC on August 28, when the committee summoned them.
The NWC had invited them for preliminary hearing to enable them explain their roles in the parallel congress and why disciplinary actions should not be taken against them.
It will be recalled that two factional leaderships had been operating in the Anambra State chapter of the PDP.
While one faction, recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission, was led by Chief Ejike Oguebego, the other was led by Ken Emeakayi, and recognised by the PDP national leadership.
The two factions had on August 24 organised primaries in different venues in the state, resulting to the emergence of Tony Nwoye and Senator Andy Uba as the party’s governorship candidates respectively.
However, Nwoye was the candidate recognised by the party’s leadership.
