The Minister of Sports and Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, has defended the choice of Globacom as title sponsor of the Nigeria Premier League.
Speaking in Lagos during the Lagos State Sports Writers Association of Nigeria organized forum, Abdullahi said that the decision of MTN to withdraw from the bid necessitated the return of Globacom.
Abdullahi said: “MTN actually won the bid and I told Globacom this.
“But after some time, MTN came to say that they are no longer interested.
“The Total Promotion that won the bid could not pay.
“We had no option than to ask the Total Promotion and Globacom to discuss since Globacom are still interested.”
The minister also said that the expenditure plan of the NPL to Globacom is N650 million.
