Protesting workers of Thisday newspaper have returned to work, accepting the promise of the Publisher and Chairman of the company, Nduka Obaigbena, to pay on Friday.
The office of the newspaper, located in Apapa, Lagos, was eventually reopened at about 7pm.
It had been locked all day by the national leadership of the National Union of Paper, Publishing Practitioners Workers of Nigeria owing to the failure of the management of Thisday to pay staff salaries for eight months.
The company is also holding onto the contributions of staff to the cooperative society, a debt that is reported to run into several millions.
After a meeting with Obaigbena, the national leadership of NUPPROW had reverted to the workers, who initially insisted on getting paid before the resumption of work.
However, the leadership of NUPPROW was said to have told the workers to give Obaigbena the benefit of the doubt in the matter.
The workers eventually agreed to the terms that the eight months salary arrears would be paid latest by Friday as promised by Obaigbena.
He has also promised to pay the cooperative deductions in installments.
