Serena Williams is through to the quarterfinals of the US Open after beating Estonian Kaia Kanepi in three sets.
The six-time champion, playing not as sharp as when she played her sister Venus on Friday, raced through the first set with a bagel, but her performance dipped in the second set as she lost 4-6.
Kanepi was leading the second set 5-2 at a stage, with the 23 time Grand Slam champion struggling in vain to force a tie break.
It was the first time that Williams dropped a set in her encounters with Kanepi.
In the third set, Williams raced to 3-0 lead to make her uncatchable by her Estonian opponent.
She won the match 6-0 4-6 6-3.
She next meets Karolina Pliskova in the quarterfinals.
Pliskova beat Ashley Barty 6-4 6-4.
Williams last met Kanepi at the 2014 US Open.
The Estonian, who was high on confidence after eliminating top seed Simona Halep in the first round, had her confidence shattered in the first set.
