Armed robbers struck on Tuesday in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, killing a man after they robbed a businessman of N1 million.
The robbers, who were reported to have attacked the businessman in his electrical shop in Isabo area of the state capital, arrived in a Toyota Jeep and shot sporadically into the air to scare away passers by.
In the bid to escape, the robbers reportedly shot a man after dispossessing him of his Toyota Camry.
This was along Kobape Road.
They then fled through the Abeokuta-Siun-Sagamu Expressway.
Tuesday robbery incident comes less than 72 hours after a Toyota Hiace bus, belonging to the Correspondents’ Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Council, was stolen in Abeokuta.
Spokesman of the Ogun State Police Command, Muyiwa Adejobi, said he was yet to get the details of the armed robbery incident.
Adejobi, however, said that the command has recorded major successes in its battle against armed robbers in the state.
He said officers and men of the command have killed seven suspected armed robbers along the Lagos/Ibadan and Lagos/Ijebu-Ode/Benin expressways in the last one week.
He said the bandits were behind the various robbery incidents along the highways.
