The Presidency late on Saturday confirmed the planned defection of the Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.
The confirmation was made by the Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Public Prosecution, Okoi-Obono Obla, and the Presidential Liaison Officer to the National Assembly (Senate), Senator Ita Enang.
While Obla took to his Facebook page to announce the planned defection of Akpabio, Enang did so on his Twitter handle.
Both Obla and Enang are from Akwa Ibom State like Akpabio, who was a two-term governor of the state before heading to the Senate in 2015.
Enang tweeted: “I’m confirming that the @APCNigeria family as earlier indicated will formally receive H.E,@godswill_akpabio on WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 8,2018 at an elaborate ceremony in Akwa-Ibom State.Senator (Dr) ITA ENANG.”
The reception for Akpabio will be at the Ikot Ekpene Stadium in Akwa Ibom State.
To receive him will be Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
Akpabio had last week met with the Vice President in the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The meeting took place at about the time the PDP was holding its National Working Committee meeting.
Akpabio as a former Governor and now serving senator is a member of the NWC.
