Three suspected armed robbers were shot to death, while three others escaped with bullet wounds during a gun battle between a suspected gang of armed robbers and men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Lagos State Police Command.
The suspected armed robbers, numbering about six, who were said to have unleashed terror on the residents of Elemoro some weeks back, were alleged to have gathered in a joint around Iyana Ipaja area of the state to plan their next line of operation when they met their waterloo.
It was gathered that men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, who acted on a tip off, traced the joint around Oyewole Street in Iyana Ipaja and engaged the robbers in a shootout.
During the shootout that allegedly lasted for some hours, three of the gang members were fatally wounded, while others escaped with bullet wounds.
One of the suspected gang members, who sustained bullet wounds, Yusuf Lekan, was confirmed dead on arrival at the hospital.
Eighteen live cartridges, five AK47 magazines loaded with live ammunitions, two AK 47 rifles, one locally made double barrel pistol, a Honda Civic saloon car with registration number MUS 81 AY, and a Honda motorcycle with registration number LSR 880 QB were recovered from the gang members.
