The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for next year’s election, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has arrived in Enugu for a meeting with the leaders of the Igbo race.
The meeting, which has the apex socio-political group of the Igbo race, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, well represented, was scheduled after the emergence of a former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, as Abubakar’s running mate.
The leaders of the Igbo race, especially members of the South East Governors’ Forum, led by Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State, had complained that they were not consulted by Abubakar before Obi was pronounced as the vice presidential candidate.
Abubakar, who left for Dubai shortly after his emergence at the PDP president candidate, promised to have a meeting with the Igbo leaders on his return home.
Abubakar came back into Nigeria in the wee hours of Monday.
