It was a bumper harvest for the Social Democratic Party in Osun State as the entire members of the Accord Party, numbering over 1,000 on Tuesday in Ejigbo Local Government Area of the state decamped to the party.
The AP members, led by their Chairman, Alhaji Saka Salam, stated at a brief ceremony held at the Bricklayers’ Hall, Masifa Junction, Ejigbo, that they decided to dump their old party due to alleged lackadaisical attitude of its leaders both at the state and the national levels.
Salam explained that the SDP became their choice after thorough search of a political party that can govern the state very well.
He said: “Many political parties came around.
“We have the leaders of the PDP and the Labour Party here.
“They met us but we decided to go with SDP, which has a welfarist agenda.
“We also realized that SDP presented the most credible candidate for the August 9 election.”
The AP Chairman promised to mobilize people in his local government and neighbouring councils for the SDP and its governorship candidate, Olusegun Akinwusi.
Receiving the members into the SDP fold on behalf of the state party executives, Akinwusi explained that the present state of the economy in the state and the interest of the youth led him to join the governorship race.
The former Head of Service stated that all those who joined the party will be treated equally but urged them to work assiduously for the SDP.
He assured them that he would win the August 9 poll.
He said if “Osun money is spent within the four walls of the state, our economy will be revived and people will be able to put food on their tables to eat”.
He lamented the present “capital flight in the state” and the high level of indebtedness the state “is presently experiencing” with an assurance that everything will be corrected by his administration.
The SDP deputy-governorship candidate, Alhaja Taiwo Olaigbe-Kulukulu, urged the women folk to support SDP for a better tomorrow for the state.
