George Agbo, the National President of Artifacts Rescuers Association of Nigeria, said on Monday that museums and monuments in the country could fetch more than N10 billion annually.
Agbo, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja, said this could be achieved “if the museums and other monuments are properly managed”.
He said the Museums in the country were in need of adequate facelift to attract tourists and visitors.
He said: “If our Museums are harmonised and upgraded, the country could make over N10 billion annually; more visitors including students, tourists and others will patronise the museums.
“More people, including foreign tourists would want to come and know the history and science of the country, including the ingenuity of our forefathers.
“We can make a lot of revenue from those museums and monuments if they are properly kept.
“Also, hoteliers can build hotels close to the monuments so that people can go there, relax and enjoy.
“The hotels would also create employments.’’
The ARAN chief said that museums in Britain, China and other parts of the world, were generating millions of dollars.
Agbo added: “Nigeria can get her own share if we do the right thing by repositioning our museums and monuments to attract tourists and visitors.’’
