The National Health Insurance Scheme says it will establish ICT centers to improve its service delivery to achieve effective Universal Health Coverage in the country.
This is contained in a statement signed by Ayo Osinlu, Head, Media and Public Relations of the scheme in Abuja on Friday.
According to Osinlu, the NHIS Executive Secretary, Prof. Usman Yusuf, said this during a courtesy call on the management of the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited in Abuja.
The spokesman quoted Yusuf as saying that his visit to NIGCOMSAT was to explore areas in which the organisation could help the scheme move health insurance forward in the country.
He said that the NHIS boss affirmed that the proposed ICT centers would provide an authentic platform for the actualisation of Universal Health Coverage in the country.
Yusuf said: “With activities expected from the scheme in the next five years, there is need to have Information and Communication Technology centers. “This will give a viable and empirical data that can be relied upon anywhere in the world.
“A solid ICT platform offers the opportunity to curtail corruption, as every kobo spent can be accurately traced and ascertained for accountability.”
Osinlu also quoted the Acting Managing Director of NIGCOMSAT, Abimbola Alale, as assuring the NHIS boss of her organisation’s readiness to provide the most appropriate ICT needs for the scheme.
Alale further said engineers at NIGCOMSAT would also pass valuable knowledge to the NHIS staff in the process.
