The Police Command in Bayelsa State on Tuesday confirmed the kidnap of Ikhiogha Walter and her granddaughter, Yellow-Tamuno Joseph.
The 74-year-old Ikhiogha Walter is the mother Chief Walter Agiri, the Paramount Ruler of Agrisaba Community in Nembe Local Government Area.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa State Police Command, Alex Akhigbe, who confirmed the incident, said it had been reported to the police but added that information at the disposal of the police was sketchy.
The aged woman and her granddaughter were kidnapped about 6.30am on Sunday by suspected gunmen who arrived in the community in two speed boats.
A source in the community said the kidnappers wore masks.
The source added that the incident had heightened anxiety in the community.
