Nigerian international, John Obi Mikel, was a second half substitute in Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Real Sociedad on Tuesday.
The defensive midfielder came on for new signing, Cesc Fabregas, who was impressive for the west London club.
Mikel’s compatriot, Victor Moses, however, sat out on the bench for the entire 90 minutes.
Meanwhile, two Diego Costa goals early in the first half settled the final pre-season game of the summer, both close-range finishes.
The second came after Andre Schurrle had hit a post.
A clean sheet, few chances conceded against good Spanish opposition, no obvious injuries suffered and action given to 21 players, with some outfielders playing over three-quarters of the game, there was plenty to please Jose Mourinho on the night at a packed Stamford Bridge.
Diego Costa threatened again soon after half-time but this time shot wide before substitutes Fernando Torres and Oscar in turn went close late in the game.
