President George Weah of Liberia says the Government of Liberia will key into the laudable projects of Nigerian Communications Satellite Ltd to improve the welfare of its citizens.
Adamu Idris, the Head, Public Affairs Department of NIGCOMSAT, made this known in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.
Idris said the Liberia President made this known when NIGCOMSAT delegation visited Monrovia recently.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that NIGCOMSAT is a company under the Federal Ministry of Communications Technology with a mission to be the leading communications satellite operators and service providers in Africa.
The company was incorporated on April 4, 2006.
Weah decried the poverty rate in Liberia, pointing out that the level of poverty in Liberia was of great concern to his government.
He said that Liberian government would not refuse to key into laudable project like this meant to improve the lives of the ordinary citizen.
He said: “The president welcomed the initiative and said the government of Liberia through the various ministries would key into NIGCOMSAT initiative and ensure a smooth collaboration.’’
Similarly, Dominic Kwenme, the Liberia Assistant Minister of Planning in the country’s Ministry of Education described NIGCOMSAT as “a great asset to the African continent’’.
Kwenme stated this during the presentation of NIGCOMSAT products and services to the ministry’s headquarters in Moronvia.
Kwenme said that Nigeria was driving Africa into the technological realm with the ownership of a communication satellite.
He said in spite of many years of independence, Africa had not been able to push through its development stride.
He said: “But now with the presence of an indigenous satellite, the ball has been set for African countries to take advantage and make the best use of it.
“I am proud to be part of this historic meeting which is meant to drive Africa, especially the underserved countries to quickly meet up with the developed world and Nigeria is doing us proud.’’
Also, the Liberia’s Minister of Education, Prof. Ansu Sonii, explained to the NIGCOMSAT delegation that the government of Weah was pro-poor.
He said: “The President of Liberia is concerned with the welfare of the people of Liberia.
“The president is working hard to ensure that the country gets out of the poverty line and enhance education for its people.’’
Sonii said with NIGCOMSAT at our bake and beacon, “we need not look elsewhere to facilitate an enduring reach that would shape our destiny and the destiny of our children’’.
Earlier, Samson Osagie, informed the Liberia’s president that their mission to Liberia was informed by the need to leverage on the various services of NIGCOMSAT Ltd.
Osagie, who is the Executive Director, Marketing and Business Development is the Head of NIGCOMSAT delegation to Liberia.
Osagie said the services of NIGCOMSAT include e-learning, internet service provision, land administration documentation facility and a host of others.
He said the mission targeted the various ministries and other departments and agencies in Liberia.
