The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Oyo State has reiterated its resolve to continue to find solutions to problems facing humanity with innovations and avoidable new technology.
The Vice-Chancellor of the Institution, Prof. Adeniyi Gbadegesin, dropped the hint at the weekend while flagging off the “One Student, One tree project”, a baby of Growing Green Initiative, the Volunteerers and the Rural Environmental Empowerment (Tree).
The University Management, Gbadegesin said, would be fully involved and ensure that the project continues into the future.
Explaining that tree planting remains a formidable solution to climatic change, he said the initiative could also contribute immensely to contributing to the Internally Generated Revenue drive profile of the University.
Gbadegesin said the immediate phase would ensure that 3,000 stands of gymelina are planted and nurtured to a stage where they become economically viable and offer a window generate money to the Institution.
He condemned the steady rise in deforestation, canvassing conscious effort at restoration of forest as a fundamental part of the agenda on sustainable Development Goal, while pledging that LAUTECH, through its involvement via the Growing Green Initiative of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and its partner TREE, will continue to take great interest in environmental issues, awareness campaign, extension and other services that will benefit the community and the University at large.
