The Lagos State Government says the suspects, who were arrested in connection with the torture of two women in Ejigbo area of the metropolis, will soon be charged to court.
Ade Ipaye, the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, disclosed this to newsmen in Lagos.
Ipaye said the government was waiting for the police to conclude their investigations to enable them to file criminal charges against the suspects.
The women were tortured by a group of men for allegedly stealing pepper.
The victims were said to have been beaten, while one of them later died.
Eight suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident, which drew public outrage after it went viral on the internet.
Ipaye said: “As soon as we get the case file, we will issue legal advice and charge the matter to court.
“As a government, we will ensure that this matter is prosecuted and those responsible are brought to justice because we want to discourage that kind of incident in Lagos State.”
Ipaye said the government was also preparing criminal charges against the persons arrested in connection with the killing of two youths in Ajara area of Badagry on July 21, 2013.
“Legal advice has been issued by the Directorate of Public Prosecutions to prosecute those who were involved in the incident,” the attorney general said.
He, therefore, advised residents of the state against taking the law into their hands, adding that they should report such cases to the appropriate authorities.
The victims – Ifechukwude Nwainokpor and his friend, identified simply as Kazeem – were reportedly lynched by some hoodlums.
