Kwara United Football Club of Ilorin, Kwara State could be banished by the Nigeria Premier League board any time from now.
The Eagle Online gathered that following the crowd trouble recorded at Ilorin Stadium during the NPL week 12 encounter against Sunshine Stars, the Ilorin-based side now faces stiff penalty.
“All we are waiting for is the report of the match commissioner to know the details. Definitely, the team will be sanctioned,” said an official of the NPL.
It is recalled that thousands of fans of Kwara United encroached the field of play during ill-fated encounter, to descend on the players of the visiting team as well as match officials.
The Centre Referee’s decision not to have allowed a penalty for Kwara United irked the home crowd as they took the laws to their hands.
After seriously wounding the match officials, the fans descended on Sunshine Stars players, technical crew and the travelling supporters.
Two players of the Akure side, Ukeyima Akombo and Sunday Abe, as well as team Coach, Gbenga Ogungbote, were battered.
The Centre Referee, Sani Mohammed from Kaduna State, was later rushed to a private hospital for medical attention.
When contacted, the acting Chairman of Kwara United, Toyin Olokooba, described the incident as unfortunate, while alleging that the centre referee was biased
