The Kwara State Government is to establish an agriculture laboratory for soil testing and allied matters to drive commercial agriculture in the state.
The state Governor, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed, gave this indication in Ilorin, the state capital, when the Chief Executive Officer of Promasidor Nigeria Limited, Chief Keith Richards, whose company is investing about $5 billion in cheese production in the state, visited him.
Ahmed explained that the proposed agriculture laboratory, which is part of his administration’s policy in the agriculture sector, will, among other things, ensure that right crops are planted on the right soil for desired dividends.
He assured potential investors that his administration will always create enabling environment that will spur agricultural and economic development in the state.
Ahmed described the interest of the private sector, including Promasidor Nigeria Limited, in the state government’s agriculture development initiative as a positive development that will boost commercial agriculture in the state.
Richards said the proposed diary factory will produce cheese, butter and other products from the milk.
Richards said Promasidor is committing about $5 million into the project, which will include equipment and auxiliary investments.
He said the factory will create employment and also encourage commercial development of the Shonga, where the factory will be sited.
