Former Governor of Abia State and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Dr. Orji Kalu, has described the demise of former Inspector General of Police, Alhaji Ibrahim Coomassie, as a big loss to the nation.
Kalu stressed that the late Sardaunan of Katsina was a rare statesman, who was passionate about peaceful co-existence among all ethnic groups in Nigeria.
Acknowledging Coomassie’s exemplary leadership qualities in different capacities, Kalu noted that the deceased will be remembered for his contributions to nation building.
In a condolence message signed by his Special Adviser, Kunle Oyewumi, Kalu, who is also Maiyaki of Katsina, commiserated with President Muhammadu Buhari, the government and people of Katsina State and the Katsina Emirate Council.
He said: “I received with pain the news of the passing of former Inspector General of Police and Chairman, Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Alhaji Ibrahim Coomassie.
“The Sarduanan of Katsina, in his lifetime, made invaluable contributions to national discourse without bias.
“His opinions on national issues were always objective and for a good cause.
“He believed in a united and indivisible Nigeria. He was indeed a man of peace.
“Alhaji Coomassie was honest, humble and detrabilized and these attributes made his tenure as Inspector General remarkable.
“It is my prayer that Allah will comfort his family and grant Alhaji Coomassie Al-Jannah Firdaus.”
The former governor equally extended his condolences to the Nigeria Police Force.
