The President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, has splashed cash rewards on the players and coaching crew of the victorious Golden Eaglets that won the 15th FIFA Under-17 World Cup concluded in the United Arab Emirates on Friday.
While the players were each given a cash reward of N2 million, the Head Coach, Manu Garba, got N3 million.
Garba’s assistants, including Nduka Ugbade, the captain of the first victorious Under-17 team at the World Cup in 1985, were awarded N2.5 million by the President.
The team doctor and some other officials were given N500,000 while other categories received N300,000.
Jonathan, who urged state governments to also host the team, promised that during the next round of bestowing national honours, the Golden Eaglets team would be included.
He also said that the members of the Board of the Nigeria Football Federation would also be given national honours.
