Abubakar Bukola Saraki FC’s new signing, Ernest Governor, says he has set a target of guiding the Ilorin-based Nigeria Professional Football League side to CAF competition at the end of the 2016/2017 season.
Governor made the assertion while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Ilorin on his aspirations for signing for the club.
He said he joined ABS to learn more under Henry Makinwa, the team’s coach, and work hard to help the team to pick up a continental ticket at the end of the season.
The former Kogi United young and experienced defender said he was aware the task wouldn’t be easy for a team like ABS, but added: “Whoever plans well will not fail.”
Governor said: “Targeting a continental ticket is a good way to plan, if you don’t have a target or plans, it will be difficult to achieve anything in life.
“This is my first Premier League debut and I want to make it count, I’m not here to warm the bench but to play all the games if possible.
“It has been a different ball game under my new coach; he is such a good coach any player should dream to play under.
“I have heard a lot about this team, that no matter your age, if you are good enough you will play regularly, this is why I want to be part of the team’s history.’’
The defender, who had played the full 90 minutes in the first two games of the season, expressed the hope that he could stay injury free throughout the season.
Also, the ABSFC Director of Football, Alloy Chukwuemeka, has described Governor as one of the best central back in the country at the moment.
Chukwuemeka told NAN on Friday in Ilorin that the players recruited were carefully selected, hence the reason young and good player like Governor was signed.
He said with the potential of the former Kogi United defender, the Super Eagles of Nigeria may have found a solution to its defensive issue.
NAN reports that Governor will be in action for the Saraki Boys on Sunday when they file out against FC Ifeanyi Ubah in a Match Day 3 NPFL fixture in Ilorin.
