The Federal Government has postponed indefinitely the maiden National Farmers’ Day earlier scheduled to hold on May 8.
This cancellation came after the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, called off a news conference that was scheduled to hold on Monday.
A source at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development told the News Agency of Nigeria that the event was called off because President Muhammadu Buhari would not be attending the event due to a more pressing official duty.
The source added that a new date would be fixed soon.
NAN reports that Ogbeh earlier said that the event was to avail the President the opportunity to speak with and appreciate farmers for their contributions to the exit of the country from recession.
He said: “We got a call from the Presidency that the President will not be available that day so that is why the event was postponed.
“A new date will be fixed soon.”
NAN also reports that this was not the first time the event would be postponed.
