Chairman of the Organising Committee of Diplomatic Sports, Moses Essien, on Thursday said the Economic Community of West African States would host the 2018 Diplomatic Sports Competition.
Essien told the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja that the 2018 edition has been scheduled to hold from October 6 to October 13 at the Abuja National Stadium.
He said the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, was very impressed with the commitment of ECOWAS Commission to host the 2018 Diplomatic Sports Competition.
Essien said: “The minister has pledged the full support and cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure success in the competition.”
He said one of the major benefits of Diplomatic Sports Competition was promoting integration, peace and unity.
The organising committee chairman said the competition would be organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He said: “This platform of diplomatic sports facilitates the strengthening of direct cordial relations between the ECOWAS Commission and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“It boosts existing friendship and cooperation between the ministry and all resident Diplomatic Missions, with other international organisations who will be participants in the competition.
“The event will commence with a health walk on October 6, where the Minister will appear as a complete sports man.
“The competition will end on October 13 with a colourful dinner, which will witness the presentation of medals, trophies and other prizes to deserving recipients.”
Essien said the ministry would ensure that all participants have a sense of integration and unity, which was the guiding spirit of the competition.
