The Vice President, Architect Mohammed Namadi Sambo, has reiterated the need for cooperation among African countries for sustainable development of the continent.
Sambo made this assertion Tuesday when he met with the President of the Republic of South Africa, Mr. Jacob Zuma, at the State House, Cape Town.
The Vice President, who extended the warm fraternal greetings of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to Zuma, called for concerted efforts to ensure the success of the Bi-National Commission agreements.
He promised that an office in the High Commission of Nigeria will be saddled with ensuring the follow-up to the established roadmap, to ensure proper and timely implementation of the resolutions reached.
Sambo noted that no one can help solve the continent’s problems but Africans and as such must device ways and means to ensure the rapid development of our region.
He took time to explain the progress being recorded in Nigeria in the power, transport, mines and agricultural sectors, urging South Africa to tap from these investment potentialities.
He promised the participation of South African companies in the power and telecommunication sectors.
He enumerated others to include potentials in gold deposits and iron ore.
He urged for further co-operation between the two countries so as to explore their resources and help develop the continent.
Earlier, Zuma had traced the history of Nigeria and South Africa during the apartheid struggle and declared that Nigeria was their family.
He stated that South Africa was not in competition with Nigeria rather in co-operation for the good of the two countries.
