Gianluigi Buffon has confirmed he will leave Juventus at the end of the season.
Juventus has scheduled a press conference with Buffon set to speak to the media.
Many thought the 40-year-old was set to announce his retirement from football but he has sprung a surprise by revealing he is only moving on from the club.
Earlier president Andrea Agnelli had confirmed Buffon would be leaving the Serie A champions after 17 years with Wojciech Szczesny being the No 1 next season.
“I can only thank the President for his words. I’m glad you came in so many. My principles have always been honesty, loyalty and hypocrisy struggle,” Buffon said.
“I am very excited, but I come to this day with happiness and fulfilment. These feelings are children of an extraordinary and beautiful journey, shared with people who have loved me. For this good I have always tried to do my best.
“Saturday will be my last match at Juventus and end my adventure so, with two cups, with the proximity of Andrea and all the Bianconeri people, will be the best thing.
“I am proud to have been able to express my best to the last, with performances to match my name and that of Juventus, I arrive at this happy and happy greeting, and for a sportsman it is not obvious.
“My fear was to get to the end as a player with a broken engine but it’s not like this. I’m proud that up to 40-years-of-age I’ve tried to express top performances up to expectations and Juventus’ name.”
Buffon has not officially retired from club football and admits to having offers, both off and on the field.
