Following Wednesday’s clash at the Lawanson Motor Park between factions of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Lagos State chapter, the police have taken over control of the park to forestall a further breakdown of law and order.
The Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Jaiyeoba Joseph, in a statement, said the action became necessary in view of the recent and frequent disturbance of public peace and order by factions of the NURTW.
Joseph said in the statement: “The Acting Commissioner of Police Lagos State has decided to take over Lawanson Motor Park from the union in the areas to maintain normalcy.”
Joseph, a superintendent of police, added that the state police command has been ordered to take over any troubled motor park in the state henceforth.
He added: “Any motor park under the aforementioned union that violates the edicts of the state or the Law of the federation will also be taken over by the authority of the Police Force in the state with immediate effect.
Henceforth, members of the NURTW within the state are seriously warned to play according to the rules of the game by obeying this order to the letter or have themselves to blame.”
