A former Head of State, General Muhammadu, has been officially announced as the winner of the presidential primaries of the All Progressives Congress.
Buhari, who scored 3,430 votes, will fly the flag of the party in the 2015 elections, in which President Goodluck Jonathan is the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Coming a distant second behind Buhari in the APC primaries was the Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
A former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, was third with 954 votes, while the Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, had the support of 624 of the delegates at the primaries.
The publisher of Leadership newspapers, Sam Nda-Isaiah, soared 10 votes.
Total votes received at the primaries was 5,992 votes, while 7,214 delegates were accredited.
Total votes cast was 6,008, with 16 voided.
The Chairman of the Planning Committee of the National Convention of the APC, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, officially pronounced Buhari the winner of the presidential primaries.
Abubakar had while the counting of votes was on, congratulated Buhari on his emergence as the party’s flag bearer.
A statement by Abubakar’s Media Office said despite the loss to Buhari, the former vice president was not going to leave the APC.
Rather, Abubakar has vowed to support the candidature of Buhari and support the party all the way.
