The Oyo State Governor, Senator Isiaka Ajimobi, has been described as a non-performer by a group in the Peoples Democratic Party, the PDP Synergy League.
In a statement by Chief Gbade Isola, Prince Dotun Oyelade and Dr. Morohunkola Thomas, the group said Ajimobi has failed in all ramifications in his 10 months in office.
The group said there is no single achievement Ajimobi can point to since he was inaugurated.
It said even if Ajimobi had already made up his mind that he would not get a re-election because of his failure to deliver on his promises, he ought to at least do a few things for the sake of posterity.
The statement by the PDP Synergy Group reads: “Even if Gov. Ajimobi of Oyo State has read the handwriting on the wall that he is a one-term governor at least he should, after 10 months of a barren reign, start doing things to leave some mark.
“Instead, he sustains a government of propaganda with lack-lustre performance. But by far the most disgraceful of his visionless administration is the callous neglect of flood disaster victims numbering over a hundred thousand across the state and in Ibadan in particular on August 26 last year.
“Seeing the magnitude of the disaster that left dozens dead and properties worth about half a billion naira destroyed, sympathisers came in torrents to assist the victims by donating money and materials through the Ajimobi administration.
“Federal Government, its numerous agencies, multi-nationals, all banks, plum corporate bodies including Dangote, telecommunication companies, religious bodies etc, all donated generously.
“In all, and as at last count, N8.7 billion was realised in cash alone, yet till this day, the victims lives have not been reasonably affected beyond the token handed to them between September and November
“By December, Oyo State Government has totally forgotten about these poor people and left them to pine away on the kongo of rice and garri, a few mattresses and clothes, doled out to them with mindless publicity.
“Now, the rain is here again and all that we hear are threatening pronouncements by government officials of further demolitions of the houses of a people already harassed and neglected.
“Instead of giving ultimatum to our citizens, the least we expect from the Ajimobi administration is an explanation on how such a gargantuan amount of money can be frittered away or better still disappear into thin air, without anything concrete to prevent another disaster and succor for victims who are lucky to survive the tragedy.
“Stampeding citizens to abandon the houses they have lived in for 30 years and more, within 14 days without a strategic plan to cushion the trauma is as wicked as neglecting those victims of the last disaster.
“In any case, government has seven whole months between the last flood disaster and now to have put effective structure in place to avoid future occurrence and re-settle the victims given the stupendous donation made available by unsuspecting philanthropists, even if it is unwilling to spend any part of the N250 billion windfall within 10 months from the federation account on the people of Oyo State.
“It is utterly irresponsible that this administration has put our people under constant fear as the rain looms again
“The various public infrastructures damaged since August 26 2011 have not been repaired in spite of huge allocation to the effect. The bridges at Oluyole Estate, Apete, Ajibode and Elebu are mere make-shifts that can’t withstand the rigour of another rainstorm while the Ayeye Bridge has totally collapsed right under their nose!
“We assure our people that we will force the hand of the Ajimobi administration to reveal the details of how much was collected and from whom, how it was expended with solid proofs of the expenditure, who are the beneficiaries, with unassailable evidences…. The questions are legion!
“The present administration must be told that apart from the Freedom of Information Act, we are also at liberty to provoke the law guiding public donations and the incumbency of public declaration of same.
“But must it really get to that if a government is open and sincere?
“It is not a coincidence that Ajimobi became the first sitting governor to lose a crucial federal constituency election, nine months into his administration.
“It is poetic justice that the victory of the PDP in Irepo, Orelope, Olorunsogo Federal Constituency was a direct statement to Ajimobi that the game is up for a government that is essentially a media creation.
“Ajimobi’s aloofness is roundly exemplified by his penchant for junketing around the globe. Barely nine months in office, the Oyo state governor has traveled abroad 22 times which means he is off his beat about twice a month.
“May we implore the good people of Oyo State to ask their governor to sit down at home and face his job!
:That will be the day, if he finally concedes to feature on E PADE Gomina, our people will make a meal of him!
“Ajimobi promised to create 20,000 jobs within 100 days of his coming to power. Ever since, he had attempted to swallow his words by tuning and re-tuning what he meant. Seven months later he finally ‘inaugurated’ YES O having watered down considerably the avowed committment of his government.
“As we write this report the YES O beneficiaries are on the streets protesting the none payment of their dues since december and more worrisome is the emerging fact that ONLY 2.000 of them were actually employed!!
“Certainly our people will never forgive such corporate deceit
“The so called development projects Ajimobi has undertaken have all the traits of mediocrity. For example, part of his programme to alleviate poverty was the introduction of tricycles which he has christened keke Ajumose. His predecessor provided over 1,000 brand new taxis for the two largest cities, Ibadan and Ogbomoso, in the first phase to ease commuters transportation agony. We have now decended from civilised taxis to tricycles. Transformation indeed!
“Governor Ajimobi must be reminded he spent the first five months in office to berate and disparage Alao-Akala. Ajimobi in an unabated tirade of abuse, virtually demonised his predecessor in office. He said it loud that he has arrived the scene to rebuild the ruins caused by Alao-Akala.
“At a stage we had cause to ask him what part of Oyo State was ruined? Does the ‘ruin’ include the renovated Mapo Hall, the rejuvenated Adeoyo Hospital, the magnificent LAUTECH Teaching Hospital and its College of Medicine, the modern highways in the city of Ibadan and other parts of Oyo State? Does it also include the brand new modern parliament building at Agodi which is the only addition to what the Awolowo government built in pre independence era?
“We must add that the ‘ruins’ also include the various traffic lights at major junctions in the city of Ibadan and of course, the major streets that have become illuminated after decades of darkness
“Ours is a mission committed to wake up Ajimobi from his incredible slumber and better the lot of our people and no amount of blackmail or abuse will derail us.”
