Nigerian international, Shola Ameobi, has sustained another injury, which will prevent him from featuring in Newcastle’s pre-season tie against St Mirren.
The striker suffered a dead leg after scoring what turned out to be the only goal of the game at Blackpool.
Ameobi netted early in the match, which was his third in four pre-season games, but didn’t reappear for the second half, having been replaced by Haris Vuckic.
“Shola’s got a little bit a dead leg that might keep him out of St Mirren, but no more than that,” Pardew disclosed.
“We had to defend well in the second half,” said Pardew. “We didn’t have enough presence up top, really. That’s something we need to address, but as a workout, I couldn’t be more pleased.”
The striker is listed by the Super Eagles gaffer, Stephen Keshi, for the Mandela Challenge against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa next month.
