One Nyikyaa David, who stood as surety to Adegbite Adetayo, in an alleged N7.3 million fuel subsidy fraud case, has urged an FCT High Court, Apo to discharge him as a surety.
David told the court that his friend who introduced him to the defendant is dead and he doesn’t know the defendant personally.
Justice Sylvanus Oriji told David that by the next adjourned date he would be discharged as a surety to Adetayo.
He told Adetayo that he must get another surety to replace David by the next adjourned date.
The case was adjourned until June 11 for hearing.
Adetayo, 43; Zormelo Michael, 47; and Ponnle Abiodun, 46, Directors of Origin Oil and Gas Limited, were arraigned on March 30, 2017 for alleged fuel subsidy fraud, amounting to N 7.3 million.
The defendants are standing trial on 11 count charges bordering on conspiracy, fraud and forgery.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the offences.
They were granted bail on May 22, 2017 in sum of N100 million each, with two sureties each in like sum.
The prosecutor, Steve Ehi, told the court that the defendants committed the alleged offences between October 8, 2010 and December 2010.
Ehi said the offences contravened Section 1(1) (a) and punishable under Section 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Related Offence Act 2006.
