A Yaba Chief Magistrates on Thursday ordered that a 26-year-old hotel staff, Jeffery Ehizojie, who allegedly murdered the manager and owner of a hotel, be remanded in prison pending legal advice from the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecution.
Chief Magistrate, Oluwatoyin Oghere, who gave the order, adjourned the case until April 10.
The Prosecutor, Sergeant Modupe Olaluwoye, told the court that the accused committed the offence on January 25 at 3am at 42, Budland Street, Ojodu-Berger, near Lagos.
She said the defendant and some other persons (at large) conspired to steal from the hotel manager and the owner but ended up strangling them.
Olaluwoye alleged that the defendant was a staff of the hotel, Etashol Hotel and Suites, belonging to Sola Olusoga, 42.
She further told the court that the defendant also strangled the hotel manager, Tunji Omikunle, 39, who was present at the time of the attempted theft.
“My lord, the defendant and his accomplices attempted to drug Olusoga and Omikunle but when it didn’t go as planned, they strangled them,” she said.
The prosecutor said after the murder, the defendant absconded to Port-Harcourt where he was caught and arrested.
The offence, Olaluwoye said, contravened the provisions of sections 233 and 223 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
