The Network of Police Reform in Nigeria, an Ngo that is made up of 46 civil societies, has endorsed the actions of the new commissioner of police in Lagos state, Imohimi Edgal.
The group in a statement signed by its chairman, Okechukwu Nwanguma, stated that it is with relief that the news of the police officer and other subordinates, who were reported to have allegedly collected bribe and sexually molested one Blessing Okani, have been invited for questioning.
The group applauded the “good beginning” of the commissioner and indicated that this is a pointer of good things to come for Lagosians.
It stated: “NOPRIN notes that this is a heart-warming and refreshing beginning by the newly appointed Commissioner of police. Policing should be transparent and accountable, and this is what the new CP seems to have boldly demonstrated by his prompt response to this complaint. This singular action by the CP and the feelers concerning his track record indicate that the new CP’s sense of professionalism, hard work and integrity, and his intolerance for corruption, misconduct and abuse, stand out. Indeed, NOPRIN has received positive attestations which indicate that Lagosians are in for a good deal with regards to policing under the new CP.”
While applauding the Lagos state police boss for inviting the group and the complainants to come forward with relevant information, the group call on everyone to support the new commissioner of police and urged the police not to rest on its oars until justice is brought to the case.
