The Governor of Niger State, Dr. Babangida Aliyu, has directed that the National Youth Service Corps Committees in the 25 local government areas of the state be re-invigorated to make them more functional.
Aliyu, while giving the directive on Tuesday at the closing ceremony of the 2014 Batch A Orientation course in Paiko, declared that the revival of the NYSC committees in the local government areas will enable them to meet the welfare needs of youth corps members deployed to the state.
The governor, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Joshua Bawa, said the state government on its part will continue to consider the welfare and security of corps members in the state as top most priority.
He however cautioned the youth corps members against unnecessary travels, which he said in the past had accounted for many unpleasant accidents.
According to him: “You must ensure that you travel only when its absolutely necessary and only when you are duly permitted.
“You must realize that the nation and your parents need you, having invested so much in your training and upbringing.”
Furthermore, Governor Aliyu challenged the corps members to take advantage of good qualities to build their future in the state adding: “Niger State has been adjudged as the most peaceful, accommodating and hospitable people state in the country.
“Our state is a mini Nigeria where indigenous syndrome does not exist.
“This, you must have experienced from your host community, which has played host to NYSC for many years.
“You have a moral duty to accept your postings in good faith and be prepared to contribute your quota to elevate the standard of lives in the rural communities in line with our vision 3-2020.”
