The Chairman of the Zamfara State Branch of the Association of Local Governments in Nigeria, Alhaji Muhammad Umar, has called for measures to curb insecurity in the state.
Umar, who is Chairman of the Birnin-magaji Local Government Area of Zamfara, made the call on Tuesday in Gusau.
He was speaking at an orientation course for Local Government Information Officers and Public Relations Officers of the APC from the 14 Local Government Areas in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the course was organised by the state APC secretariat in collaboration with a group, Media and Publicity Consult.
Umar noted that insecurity in Zamfara was beyond the state or and its local councils, calling on the Federal Government to collaborate with the state to tackle the crisis.
He also appealed to National Assembly members, representing the state to help in resolving the problem.
He said: “I am calling on federal lawmakers representing the state in Abuja to come to the state and visit their communities to see what is happening in their constituencies.
“We all know the efforts made and the kind of resources expended by the State Government in tackling this problem. So, we need urgent interventions from all stakeholders.
“We need to educate our people on really what is happening in Zamfara State. The situation is beyond the capacity of the State Government.
“Our people, especially those in rural communities are in serious need of urgent intervention to address this problem.
“This situation is beyond making comments from Abuja.”
The ALGON chief thanked the state’s APC chapter under the leadership of Alhaji Lawal Liman for organising the orientation course.
He said that the association was evolving new strategies in supporting the information officers for effective service delivery.
He said: “I thank the secretariat of our great party and MPC for this wonderful programme and I think it will improve the capacity building of our information managers at local government areas.”
In his remark, the APC Chairman in the state, Alhaji Lawal Liman, said the course was one of the programmes initiated by the state’s APC secretariat to contribute to the development of the state.
Liman said the course would help in showcasing various developmental projects executed by the State Government.
He said: “With this orientation, we believe various development projects executed by the State Government under the leadership of Governor Abdul’aziz Yari, particularly at rural communities would be showcased to other parts of the country.’’
He reiterated the party’s commitments to partnering with stakeholders for the development of the state.
Earlier, the Chairman of the MPC, Malam Nasiru Biyabiki, said the partnership was aimed at improving the capacity building of information managers at local government areas of the state.
