The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio, has told investors in Canada and other parts of the world that his state is a goldmine with abundant oil, mineral and agricultural resources waiting for them to tap into.
Making a clarion call while addressing the Governors’ Roundtable session of the Investment Conference at the Canada-Nigeria Investment Forum in Toronto, Canada, Akpabio emphasized the need for investors to consider Akwa Ibom State as their next viable destination in Nigeria.
He said: “Every inch of our land drips with opportunities for investment.”
Highlighting opportunities for small and medium scale investments, Akpabio informed the investors that they have a wide latitude in food and beverages; base metal (including iron and steel); wood and allied steel products; chemical and pharmaceuticals; textile, leather and wearing apparels; electrical and electronics; domestic and industrial plastics foam and rubber; and non-metallic materials.
For investors in the maritime sector, Chief Akpabio said Akwa Ibom State has the largest off-shore production and per acreage in Nigeria, offers limitless exploration and exploitation opportunities in the upstream and downstream sectors, for gas development and conversion, crude oil marketing, seismic data acquisition, gas to liquid projects, refineries, gas powered industries, in addition to ship building and boat fabrication.
Intimating his audience about plans to commence the Phase II of the Ibom Power Plant project, which he noted would create investment openings in the areas of electricity power lines, power distribution and electrification installation accessories like ceramic rollers, Akpabio invited investors to become interested in the MRO/Hanger facility or get into partnership in the development of the International Terminal, bonded and un-bonded warehouses, private terminals and support services at the Ibom International Airport.
The governor, who mentioned that new trends in the tourism world have not escaped the attention of his administration, called on investors to “join us in the management of the wet and dry park at the Tropicana Centre, or in the management of the Convention Centre and/shopping mall.”
Also, calling attention to the fact that Akwa Ibom State has one of the longest stretches of natural beaches in the world, other tourist sites like the Blue and White River at Ukanafun; the abode and burial place of Mary Slessor in Itu and other places in the state, the Governor said, are of great tourism potential.
The governor equally noted that investment opportunities abound in the agriculture sector in the areas of mechanized farming, fish farming, hatchery, large-scale plantation development and rice production.
Akwa Ibom State, according to the him, “is fertile all year round.”
