A 140 year old man, Pa Mustapha Bada, who is one of the victims of the recent rainstorm in Supare Akoko of the Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State, have appealed to the government to come to their rescue.
The victims, who lamented while recounting their losses to the disaster, pleaded with the government to, as a matter of urgency, assist them fix their roofs which had been blown off by the rainstorm, saying they have nowhere to lay their heads.
Pa Bada urged government at various levels, to come to the aid of the community like they had done for different affected communities in the past.
Meanwhile, State Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi, led the state delegation on Tuesday to Supare, inspected the level of wreckage done by the rainstorm in the affected communities.
Ajayi said he received the news of the destruction by the rainstorm with sadness, describing it as a clear case of a natural disaster.
He noted that natural disaster of sort could happen as a result of change in climatic condition, urging the residents to be calm.
The Deputy Governor stated that the state officials of the National Emergency Management Agency were already in the affected communities to ascertain the damage caused by the rainstorm, to ameliorate the plights of the victims.
He reiterated the commitment of Akeredolu-led administration to delivering dividends of democracy and assured that it will not delay in providing immediate response, to cushion the effects of the incident.
Ajayi stressed the need for the residents of the state to be vigilant and conscious of the fact that the rainy season has just begun and more attention should be geared towards adequate protection of lives and property.
He, however, urged the people to desist from dumping refuse into river channels, saying it could lead to flooding and other preventable disasters.
The rainstorm, which occurred on Sunday morning reportedly, wreaked havoc on about 500 buildings in Supare and Ikare Akoko Communities, blowing off house roofings.
