The First Lady, Aisha Buhari, has urged the All Progressives Congress to redouble its efforts in promoting women participation to address barriers to their involvement in the political process.
She spoke at the maiden edition of the APC National Women Conference with the theme: “One Voice: Women Uniting for Progress.”
Buhari said at the event in Abuja on Tuesday: “Nigeria’s future is entirely dependent on actualising the potential of our women.”
She therefore called on the party to redouble its efforts towards promoting women and evolving strategies for getting them fully involved.
She added: “As Nigeria heads towards another election year, we must go beyond paying lip service to women interest in the party and government.
“We must put in place workable strategies to ensure that women achieve these objectives.
“APC must show example by ensuring that women occupy strategic positions within the party and in government.”
The wife of President Muhammadu Buhari therefore urged Nigerian women to be resilient by showing greater interest, unity and commitment to achieve the objectives considering their numerical strength.
“Our vintage point lies in our sheer numerical strength,” she said.
