Olajumoke Adetona, the Acting General Manager of Public Affairs of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, said on Thursday that the nation’s airspace would remain open on Saturday.
Adetona said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos, adding that the Federal Government had no plans to shut down the airspace.
She said: “The airspace will be operating because of military operations, emergencies and for foreign airlines flying over our country.
“Our local aircraft will be on ground due to the restriction of movement by the government and the electoral body.”
Banji Olawode, the National Secretary of the Nigerian Air Traffic Controllers’ Association, also told NAN that the airspace remains open on Saturday.
Olawode said members of NATCA would be on ground to perform their normal duties.
According to him, the FG only closed the land and water boarders but the airspace would remain open.
He said: “Airspace remains open all day.
“Our members are on ground to perform their normal duties.
“We are aware that the FG will only close land and water boarders.
“The airspace remains open.”
Samuel Ogbogoro, the Head of Corporate Communications of Dana Airline, told NAN that the airline would not operate its flight scheduled operations on election day.
Ogbogoro said this was due to the restriction of movement declared by the Federal Government within the election period.
NAN reports that the Federal Government has declared restriction in movement due to the presidential election taking place on March 28 nationwide.
