The Kwara State Government has approved the establishment of the State Council on Works and Transport to ensure harmonisation of the activities of state and the local governments in the provision of infrastructure to the people.
Similarly, the State Executive Council approved in principle the establishment of the State Hospital Management Board to enhance qualitative and accessible health care delivery to the people, especially at the grassroots by the Tertiary health institutions in the state.
The state Commissioner for Works and Transport, Dr. Abubakar Amuda Kannike, at a post Kwara State Executive Council meeting press briefing disclosed that the establishment of council on Works and Transport was sequel to the decision reached at the last National Council on Works and Transport that states should establish State Councils on Works and Transport.
He explained that the Council will ensure synergy of the activities of State and local governments on the provision of infrastructure; avoidance of duplication and wastage of resources; and access to technical competence at the State level by the local governments.
Speaking on the Health Management Board, the Commissioner for Health, Alhaji AbdulKayode Issa, said the Board will complement the activities of the existing Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Kwara State Community Health Insurance Scheme in the provision of qualitative healthcare to the people.
The State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Prince Tunji Moronfoye, said the council also approved the reactivation and establishment of more grazing reserves in all parts of the State to check instances of clash by farmers and cattle rearers.
Prince Moronfoye said council in-session noted that there was the need for greater presence of police, through the creation of more police posts in areas prone to farmers and cattle rearers rift.
