The Borno State Emergency Management Agency said it had distributed food and other relief materials to victims of fire disaster at the Ajiri Internally Displaced Persons camp.
The Chairperson of the agency, Hajiya Yabawa Kolo, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Maiduguri on Friday.
NAN recalled that a mysterious fire razed over 300 tents at Ajiri camp in Mafa local government area of Borno on March 6.
Though there were no casualties; hundreds of persons displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency taking shelter in the camp lost their property to the inferno.
Kolo disclosed that food items, cooking utensils, mats, blankets and clothing materials were distributed to the victims.
She explained that the state government provided the items for distribution to the victim’s sequel to the assessment exercise conducted by the agency.
Kolo listed the items to include 400 bags of rice; 400 bags of granulated grain, 100 cartons of pasta, 50 kg of cooking oil, 500 bundles of clothing materials for adult and two bundles of children wears.
Other items include: 9, 000 pieces of kitchen utensils; 400 buckets, 1, 200 pieces of mats and 3, 000 blankets.
The chairperson added that the gesture was to assist the victims and assuage their sufferings.
According to her, the agency had also conducted an assessment exercise at the Rann IDPs camp following similar fire incident in the area.
The National Emergency Management Agency confirmed that six displaced persons were killed and 20 others sustained injuries in the fire outbreak at the camp on March 27.
