The Nigeria Basketball Federation has resolved to reschedule the camping exercise of the former African Champions, D’ Tigress, in order to accommodate US-based stars in their programme ahead of the Afrobasket for Women.
Patrick Omorodion, who is a board member of the federation, hinted that the arrangement was reached after consulting with coaches and academic advisers of national team players in the USA.
The training camp was earlier scheduled to open in Abuja on August.
Omorodion said: “The situation is not peculiar to the federation as other African countries with players in American schools and International Clubs are also affected.
“The modified schedule is likely to see the international players reporting to the team in September as the proposed Abuja training camp has been put on hold.”
Meanwhile, six home-based players have been pencilled down to join their foreign based counterparts for the Afrobasket schedule for Mozambique in September. The players are Nkechi Akashili, Evelyn Akhator, Amaka Nwakamma, Nkem Akarawe, Nkoyo George and Upe Atosu.
