The Ogun State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Chief Adedayo Adeneye, has charged youths to re-assert themselves and ensure that their collective impact as well as values are felt in the rebuilding mission of the Ogun State Government.
Adeneye also implored them to join in the efforts to ensure the success of the change agenda of the General Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government.
Adeneye, who gave the charge when he received the Executive members of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Ogun State Chapter during a visit to him in his Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta office on Thursday, said Nigerian youths must rededicate themselves towards the development of the country.
The Commissioner said there is the need for youths to be change agents, especially now that the country is yearning for change, adding: “Time will come when the older ones will no longer be active and relevant towards the growth of the country.
“We cannot continue to leave decision making to the older ones, so there is the need for our youths to brace up for the leadership task, in order to collectively build this nation.
“It is quite disheartening that some of our youths now engage in cyber crimes, instead of finding a way to be useful for themselves and the nation at large.
“It is high time we change our orientation of depending solely on government to provide the wherewithal for us.
“We, on our own part, must also contribute our own quota to assist the government achieve its aims and objectives.”
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman, NYCN, Ogun State, Comrade Adeleke Mustapha Adebajo, appreciated the state government for its support towards youth development in the State.
Adebajo appreciated the socio-economic development stride of the Senator Ibikunle Amosun administration, assuring the government of the support of the council in its Mission to Rebuild the state.
Also speaking, the Organising Secretary of the council, Comrade Dotun Opaleye, revealed that the NYCN is to organise a Leadership summit on March 15 and 16 at Odogbolu.
Opaleye said the summit, tagged: “Odogbolu 2018,” is geared towards bringing the youths across the state together to brainstorm on ways to contribute to the development of the state.
