The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, on Sunday led thousands of members of church across the country on Sunday in a prayer walk against the killings of Christians in the North as well as worsening insecurity in the country.
Adeboye personally led the prayer walk for 2km at the National Headquarters of the church in Ebute-Metta, Lagos.
He was joined by the members of the Executive Council of the RCCG.
The prayer walk was scheduled for 11am, but that at the National Headquarters, which took the protesters through Redemption Way to Coast Street and back, stated around 10:55am.
Adeboye, who led the exercise ordered by the Christian Association of Nigeria that lasted for 15 minutes, carried a placard with the inscription: “All souls are precious to God.”
He said: “There are some things the government can do alone and there are others that they cannot do alone.
“That is why we have to pray for the country that God should have mercy on Nigeria.
“We pray that that there will be peace and security in Nigeria.
“God sees all things and knows where the terrorists are.
“We pray that God sends His light to Nigeria and exposes the evildoers in the country.
“That God should uproot all their sponsors.”
The Assistant General Overseer Personnel and Administration of RCCG, Pastor Johnson Odesola, said the “church is part and parcel of CAN we are not an isolated church.
“This morning we are doing the prayer walk to pray for the state of the nation, which everybody have been commenting on and has call for concern and we believe that God who has the solution to the multi-dimensional problems we are faced with as a country.”
Adeboye posted a further explanation on the prayer walk on his Facebook page: “Today, Sunday, 2nd of February, 2020, members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God led by me embarked on a prayer walk that will usher in a new dawn in our dear country, Nigeria.
“The prayer walk was aimed at offering prayers and supplications unto God to save Nigeria from being consumed by insurgents, terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, armed robbers, militants and ritualists in all our states.
“Furthermore, we declared that Jesus who is the Prince of Peace is our Lord and King. We carried and displayed several placards saying ‘No’ to further killings and demanding that the Federal and State governments should rise up to their civic responsibility of securing the lives and properties of her citizens.”
